Safari Overview

A six-day primate safari across Bwindi and Mgahinga, adding a scenic wildlife stop at Lake Mburo. This is a private safari proposal, with your accommodation choices and activity arrangements agreed before booking. Travel times are indicative and depend on roads, weather, park arrangements and border formalities where applicable.

Suggested route: Entebbe – Lake Mburo – Bwindi – Mgahinga – Kigali.

Detailed Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe to Lake Mburo

Start your private safari with a road transfer from Entebbe toward Lake Mburo National Park. Reach the park area in time for an afternoon nature activity or game drive, depending on your arrival hour. This compact savannah reserve is known for zebras, impalas and scenic acacia woodland. Spend the night at a lodge near the park.

Overnight: A suitable lodge or hotel in the overnight destination, chosen after your preferred comfort level and availability are confirmed.

Day 2: Lake Mburo and onward to Bwindi

Take an early morning wildlife drive or a ranger-led walking safari, subject to booking and park rules. After breakfast, leave the savannah behind for the cooler hills of southwest Uganda. Continue through Mbarara and Kabale or another suitable route to the Bwindi trekking sector named on your permit. Rest at your forest lodge.

Overnight: A suitable lodge or hotel in the overnight destination, chosen after your preferred comfort level and availability are confirmed.

Day 3: Mountain gorilla trekking

After breakfast, attend the gorilla trekking briefing and follow rangers into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Forest conditions and trek length vary with the gorillas' movements, so bring suitable boots, rain protection and water. Your group normally has up to one hour with the assigned habituated family. Return to the lodge for the evening.

Overnight: A suitable lodge or hotel in the overnight destination, chosen after your preferred comfort level and availability are confirmed.

Day 4: Transfer to Kisoro and Mgahinga area

Enjoy the Bwindi landscape before travelling to Kisoro, gateway to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The road winds through steep highlands with striking views of the Virunga volcanoes. Settle into a lodge and discuss the following morning's golden monkey tracking arrangements. This day provides recovery time between the two primate activities.

Overnight: A suitable lodge or hotel in the overnight destination, chosen after your preferred comfort level and availability are confirmed.

Day 5: Track golden monkeys in Mgahinga

Transfer early to Ntebeko for the park briefing, then hike with a guide through the forest and bamboo habitats in search of the endangered golden monkeys. The terrain and walking time depend on conditions and the group. After the activity, return to the lodge to relax, enjoy the volcano scenery and prepare for the departure drive.

Overnight: A suitable lodge or hotel in the overnight destination, chosen after your preferred comfort level and availability are confirmed.

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, cross into Rwanda through the appropriate border post and continue toward Kigali. Immigration, travel times and border requirements vary by nationality, so valid entry documentation must be checked before travel. Arrive for a city hotel or airport drop-off, with sufficient buffer for any same-day international flight.

Overnight: Safari ends after the agreed drop-off; additional accommodation can be arranged if required.

Important Safari Planning Notes

Gorilla trekking participants must be at least 15 years old. Permit availability is limited and every trek follows the relevant park authority rules. Wild animals move freely, so sightings and trekking durations cannot be guaranteed. Accommodation and activities are proposed options until we confirm space and receive your approval.
