Discover the lakes, woodland and savannah of Akagera National Park on a private Rwanda wildlife adventure. Detailed Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali

Arrive in Kigali and meet your guide for an airport transfer to your hotel. Depending on the flight schedule, enjoy a short city orientation or a relaxed afternoon. Discuss your interests in wildlife photography and birding so your guide can plan suitable routes for the Akagera game drives ahead.

Day 2: Kigali to Akagera National Park

Drive east from Kigali into the drier lowland landscapes surrounding Akagera National Park. Enter the reserve and begin wildlife viewing along the accessible tracks toward your lodge. Look for zebra, antelope, giraffe and birdlife, keeping in mind that wildlife is free-ranging and sightings are never guaranteed. Overnight inside or near the park.

Day 3: Full-day Akagera wildlife exploration

Spend the morning game driving through a mix of rolling savannah, lakes and woodlands. Search for elephants, buffaloes, zebra, giraffes and, with luck, predators. Break for lunch and continue exploring in the afternoon. A scheduled boat safari on Lake Ihema can be substituted or added where available and booked in advance.

Day 4: Morning safari and return to Kigali

Enjoy an optional early wildlife drive before breakfast, or take a slower morning depending on your chosen lodge. Then leave Akagera and return west to Kigali. Stop for lunch and arrive for an airport or hotel transfer. The timing of the final morning can be tailored to your international flight schedule.

Overnight: Safari ends after the agreed drop-off; additional accommodation can be arranged if required.

Important Safari Planning Notes

Gorilla trekking participants must be at least 15 years old. Permit availability is limited and every trek follows the relevant park authority rules. Wild animals move freely, so sightings and trekking durations cannot be guaranteed. Accommodation and activities are proposed options until we confirm space and receive your approval.
