The journey
Kibale National Park has one of the highest densities of primates in Africa, with thirteen species living in its tall, humid forest. The star is a habituated community of chimpanzees, and with an experienced ranger you spend an hour watching them feed, groom and call through the canopy.
Beyond the chimps, the forest is alive with red colobus, black-and-white colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys, and the nearby Bigodi Wetland is a haven for birds. The crater lakes around Fort Portal make a beautiful base.
